Why is everyone so hung up on the term "cure?" You can almost see them visibly cringe whenever the word cure is even mentioned. What's the deal? If you can locate a substance, that when applied to treat your lung cancer, completely takes your lung cancer away, isn't that a cure? Hasn't your lung cancer in fact, been cured? If it was there in your body, and now it isn't in your body...isn't that what cure means?

Almost everyone with mesothelioma experiences pain, the more so as the disease advances. Most patients use of a variety of pain medications to reduce pain and maintain their quality of life. Here are the kinds of pain that people with mesothelioma must deal with, and the types of pain medications used to control the pain.
Mild to moderate pain
Non-opioids: Examples are acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen. You can buy many of these over the counter, without a prescription. Some stronger NSAIDs do require a prescription.
Tingling and burning pain
Two other groups of drugs, antidepressants and antiseizure medications, have proven to be very useful in managing tingling and burning sensations. Taking an antidepressant does not mean that you are depressed or have a mental illness, and taking an antiseizure medication does not mean that you are going to have seizures. It dissolves in saliva, and is absorbed through the mucus membranes that line the mouth. Pain relief occurs within 5 to 10 minutes. People find the drug easy to use, effective, and easily tolerated. Oxycodone and hydromorphone can also be used for breakthrough pain, but neither of these are available as lozenges in the mouth absorption.

Researchers have discovered a new and potentially successful treatment for victims of the deadly lung cancer known as mesothelioma. The treatment is known as chemoembolization and is being offered at a single German facility only. The treatment was recently administered to its first mesothelioma patient, a woman who developed the condition after hugging her father everyday, who was covered in asbestos fibers because of work.
The woman's cancer has since gone into remission with her tumor having been reduced by more than half, according to BBC news reports.
The method of chemoembolization uses chemotherapy drugs delivered into the "site of a cancer tumor" and "since the chemotherapy drugs are delivered into the tumor, stronger doses of the drugs may be used," according to research from the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. For mesothelioma cancer patients, a catheter into the lungs may potentially be used to deliver the drugs to the cancer site. Because of the success of the treatment, research is continuing, according to news reports.
Developing Pleural Mesothelioma
Pleural mesothelioma occurs when mesothelioma of the chest develops. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) recently reported that "the pleura is the membrane that surrounds the lungs and lines the wall of the chest cavity." According to NCI, mesothelioma occurs once cells within the lining of the lungs, known as the mesothelium begin to metastasize. The American Cancer Society (ACS) reported the following as symptoms of pleural mesothelioma:
* pain in the side of the chest

However, there are a number of things you can do to reduce your chances of developing this disease. In this article I will be discussing three things you can do to prevent small cell lung cancer.
1) QUIT SMOKING:- Smoking has been scientifically proven to cause a number of cancers. However, it is most strongly linked with lung cancers. The reason for this is that cigarettes contain over 70 carcinogens (chemicals that are known to cause cancer). Every time you inhale the smoke from a cigarette these carcinogens go straight to your lungs greatly increasing the chance of cancerous growths in the small cells of your lungs. Therefore, by quitting smoking you can significantly lower your chances of developing SCLC.
2) AVOID OTHER HARMFUL SUBSTANCES:- Although smoking is by far the most significant risk factor for SCLC there are a number of other chemicals that have been linked with this condition. Uranium, radon (which is created by the breakdown of uranium) and asbestos are all thought to increase your likelihood of contracting SCLC. When combined with smoking these substances are thought to be an even more significant SCLC risk. Therefore, by avoiding these chemicals you can help prevent small cell lung cancer.
3) EAT MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES:- Although the research is not conclusive a number of studies have suggested that fruits and vegetables can help prevent SCLC. This is thought to be because they are rich in anti-oxidants, flavenoids and vital vitamins. All these ingredients work together to prevent cellular damage which reduces the chances of the cells becoming cancerous. Therefore, by increasing your consumption of fruit and vegetables you could lower your chances of developing SCLC.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the article the survival rate for this type of cancer is low. However, you can have a large influence over how likely you are to contract SCLC. By quitting smoking and avoiding smoky environments you can drastically reduce your risk but by doing the other things listed in this article too you can prevent small cell lung cancer even further.
