Recent studies have concluded that spiritual people are better able to cope with the acute illnesses. People who believe in any faith are better able to withstand the rigors of long and painful treatment than people who are not at all spiritual. Even people having an optimistic outlook towards life in general get cured early and are able to live a longer and a meaningful life in comparison to those people who have a pessimistic view of life.
Being spiritual does not mean that one should necessary believe in any particular faith or religion. In fact it means that one is able to see things from a broader perspective. Being spiritual means that one is able to transcend his notions of time and space and have a more detached view of life. People who did not believe in any religion or were not able to view life from a perspective that was different from their earlier perspective were not able to withstand the rigors and pain that is generally associated with any terminal illness. People who had a broader outlook towards life and were spiritual in their perspective fared better in their struggle against diseases like mesothelioma. Although being spiritual does not means that the pain and suffering associated with the cancer of mesothelioma is reduced by any measure. Being spiritual means that the individual can have better tolerance and has a happy opinion about their health.
Some activities like meditation, yoga etc has been immensely beneficial for the people suffering from mesothelioma. Spirituality also means making the patients suffering from mesothelioma feel a part of the community. They should be encouraged to spend their time doing some meaning full activities and feel like an important part of the mainstream.
